Giada Ghiringhelli (b. 1981) is a Swiss new media artist and videomaker graduated with a MFA in Computer Art at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York and currently living in New York Tokyo London. Co-founder of the art, video and film collective The Only Constant and co-curator of the monthly event Video Is The Only Constant at Corsica Studios, her creative experience spans across experimental audio visual pieces, multimedia projects and commercial products. Her works explore the images in motion through the manipulation of space, time and movement, while employing light and the body as main compositional elements, creating artworks of rhythmic sensation and artificial reconstruction. Her videos have been exhibited internationally and recent screenings include aluCine Toronto Latin Media Festival, the TV channel Souvenirs from earth, VAD Festival, Pantheon Xperimental, 15 Minute Factory, International Videofestival Bochum, Re-new, New Media Meeting, ANIWOW! Artist statement

My artistic work is all about movement and its opposite inclination to stasis. It is about a body made of flesh that has to move in order to be.
Personally, I have always felt the ground under my feet trembling and the liquids in my body flowing, my flesh transforming and my shape adapting. I have always been fascinated in how we can be both presence and absence, heavy mass and gentle imagination; how we can wander in space through gestures and in time through transformation. By moving we draw boundaries and organize the space.
Similarly, I consider the video camera as the exasperation of our nature: an object able to set an imaginative border around another object, to invent a space that is container of vision and vision contained at the same time and where a body is repeatedly seen and not seen.
Even if the body has always been my narcissistic obsession and body artists my source of inspiration, I dislike when it is shown in its brutality and violent carnality. In the technological age, my body is not survivor of anger and guinea pig to dissect, but fragile interface through which I move in the world and I experience the medium of video in itself. I am especially interested in the possibilities and limits of audio/visual technologies. I want to explore the images in motion through the manipulation of time, movement and light in order to create compositions of rhytmic sensation and artificial reconstruction. The image repeated, reframed or varied in speed can contribute to produce an harmonic composition that is like a piece of music. I want to be the compositor able to determine the time and power of the piece.
Usually, the continuous stream of images does not stop and passes through the visual field of the spectactor. I ask for contemplation, trying to force the image between stasis and motion and oblige the viewer to observe the otherwise glancing picture.
